Magnolia House is a 7,535 square foot private residence located at the top of a mountain valley in the Los Arrayanas neighborhood of Puembo, Ecuador. Designed and built by Escudero for his mother, the minimalist, single story dwelling is arranged around a central courtyard that frames a large magnolia trees, inspired by her childhood love of the plant.
The home is characterized by a concrete roof that undulates, creating the sensation of a heavy material floating and sloping in space around the central, glass enclosed courtyard, and up to the expansive glass wall of the rear facade, which opens up to the valley.
The X bedroom, X bathroom home also features tables and chairs from OBIO's Near Life collection, which is inspired by nature in a similar way to how the house was inspired by magnolia trees, with each product conceived to feel animated as if it were given a soul.
